I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my professional opinion on how and why the Marine Corps should recruit, train, and retain the highest quality IT professionals in this month’s edition of the Marine Corps Gazette. In this article, I break down how IT leaders in the military can build a cadre of well qualified professionals capable of competing with the pacing threats across the globe by matching personal goals to organizational needs.

Recruiting begins with finding the right recruiter who is passionate and knowledgeable about the IT career field and finding self-disciplined and ambitious prospects who have the intangible  qualities required to accomplish the mission.

Training requires an alignment to industry standards, professional curriculum redesign, and a focused career path that compounds to build proficiency and a culture of continuous learning.

Retention requires IT leaders to develop clear, achievable career goals while consistently offering the constituent purposeful work that allows his intangible qualities to shine.

I’d like to extend a special thank you to the Marine Corps Association for allowing me to contribute to such an esteemed publication!
